Bestiarium Negativum
Frá því að land var hér numið fyrir rúmum þúsund árum höfum við í senn óttast og dáðst að náttúrunni okkar. Veðurofsi og draugalegar jarðmyndanir hafa sett svip sinn á það fólk sem hér hefur búið. Þrátt fyrir það höfum við hvorki þurft að óttast flóru né fánu. Þó hefur negatífa náttúrunnar leyft okkur að sjá alls kyns verur sem voru ef til vill ekki til staðar og hafa hinar ýmsu sögur gengið manna á milli um hvurslags ófreskjur hafa sést á láði jafnt sem í legi. Þetta er okkar arfur.
Sýningin Bestiarium Negativum veltir upp spurningunni hvort sé sterkara við skrímslasýn, það sem sést eða það sem ekki sést og skoðar mikilvægi negatífunnar í þessu samhengi. Einnig eru mörkin skoðuð hvar mynstur hættir að vera mynstur. Bestiarium Negativum sýnir í myndum hvað gerist þegar ógnarlegum ókindum er hrúgað saman í litrík mynstur og geigvænleg grös taka á sig skuggalegar myndir.

From the time when the first settlers came, roughly a thousand years ago, we have both feared and admired out nature. Extreme weather and ghostly landscapes have shaped the people who have lived here. We have, in spite of that, never had to fear neither flora nor fauna. The negative of nature has allowed us to see all sorts of creatures that perhaps werent there and tales have been passed between people about what kind of monsters have been sighted on land and in sea. This is our heritage.
The exhibition Bestiarium Negativum asks the question what is more powerful when viewing a monster, that which may be seen or that which may not and of which importance the negative is in that context. It also explores where and when a pattern ceases to be a pattern. Bestiarium Negativum exhibits in picture form what happens when ominous monsters are stuffed into colorful prints and creepy plants morph into shadows.
